CKACS tries to maintain a healthy environment for the benefit of the students and the teaching staff. Our parents cooperation in the following pertinent matters of health is needed:

  1. If your child has a fever, he/she is to remain at home. A child must be fever-free for at least 24 hours in order to attend school.
  2. A child with a communicable disease cannot attend school; he/she must remain at home. Parents are asked to notify the school promptly after their child is diagnosed as having a communicable disease. The school will notify the parents of the children in the ill child's class in a manner in order to alert them of their child's possible exposure. The child will be allowed back to school after the parent/guardian receives such authorization from a physician.
  3. Parents must authorize, in writing, the dispensing of medication, and the authorization must be on file with the school. The school will safely store all prescribed medication. The office will administer the medicine according to the authorized dosage if the medicine is in its original container bearing the child's name and instructions on the pharmacist's label.
  4. The school has an isolation area for children who become sick at school. Parents will be promptly notified and asked to come and take their child home or to the doctor.

Lice

In the event that a lice infestation occurs within a classroom, parents will be notified.

If lice becomes epidemic then a memorandum will be issued to the whole school. Please note that having head lice does not necessarily mean that a person is "dirty". Transmission can occur quite easily from one affected individual to another. Children should be instructed not to share combs, brushes, hats, scarves, coats, and sweaters.

Treatment consists of shampooing with a special medicated shampoo. It is recommended that all members of the family be treated. All bed linen should be washed in hot, soapy water and dried in a hot dryer at least 20 minutes. Clothing and mattresses should be vacuumed thoroughly. Over the counter preparations like "Nix" or "Rid" are available.

Immunization

Parents or guardians must provide the dates (month, day, year) of each immunization the child has received prior to registration. Parents can pick up the immunization form in the CKACS office.
